Hop Nuts: Double The Cans, Double the Hops

Image
Check Out My Cans !! As beer lovers, some of the best days in the life are new beer releases. The taste of freshly kegged and canned beer can’t be beat. So when we heard Hop Nuts was doing a double can release this past Friday we were psyched! 18b Is The Place To Be Hop Nuts Brewing is located in the heart of the downtown 18b District on Main St. This area is filled with fun spots to make a day of it, starting with coffee at Makers and Finders, antiquing at Retro Vegas and finish with a fresh beer at Hop Nuts. This week’s release was perfectly timed with First Friday.   Hazeilla DIPA The first of Hop Nuts double can release that we tried was the Hazeilla Double IPA, an 8% Hazy DIPA brewed and double dry hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo, and Nelson Sauvin hops. This beer has an in your face hop character reminiscent of some of the best West Coast IPA’s, but finishes with a bit of sweet melon that reminds you it’s a Hazy IPA. This beer will please the “Hop-Heads”, but still remains approacha

Veronica’s Takeover: Cicerone Feels

Still the Same Ol’ G If you know me at all, you know these past six months have been a whirlwind. I’ve juggled multiple jobs, studied for the Certified Cicerone test, planned a wedding and oh yea, trying to grasp on the what ever little sliver of life is left! Through the ups and downs, we’ve found some sure footing and I’m very excited to start this next chapter in our lives. The Feels Are Real My story today starts back in November, and unfortunately it’s not a happy ending fairytale story. I was really looking forward to our weeklong vacation in San Diego. The allure of escaping everyday life was calling to me. Unfortunately this trip was not all fun and games. I started the week at orientation for Modern Times, and I figured I would go ahead and take the test that I had studied over a year to take..... The Certified Cicerone Test .  I would say I’m more book smart than street smart, but really who even knows what the hell that means!! The months leading up to this, I took the ti

Modern Times Flights With The Wizard @ Pub 365

Veronica’s First Beer Dinner!!! Many hours of preparation, and promotion went into getting this culinary adventure of epic proportions set up. Veronica being the #1 Party Wizard in Las Vegas would accept nothing but perfection, and that’s exactly what she achieved. It ended up being the #1 beer dinner that Pub 365 has done in terms of popularity. This success is partially because Modern Times is great, Veronica’s putting in that work, and a collaboration with the ever so popular, Beer Zombies. Ok... ok.... ok... enough bragging and boasting let’s get into the pairings. Welcome Beer: Modern Times Ice What a greeting, walk in and receive a cold tall boy. This beer was a perfect beer to get the pallet primed to recieved the perfect pairings to proceed. Ice from Modern Times is exactly what it’s name suggests, Ice...... Cold...... Beer!! It’s an amazing example of an American brewery taking on the refreshing classic Czech Premium Pale Lager. It even is brewed using Saaz hops to keep true t

Top 5 Places to Buy Beer in Las Vegas

5). Liquor World Liquor World makes this list because of its 5 convenient locations, with varying hours. Some are even open 24 hours. Some have better selections than others. While this has more of a big liquor store feel, the craft beer section is worth a look. You may not find a lot of rare one-offs, but you will find a selection of good craft beer from the Ale Smith Speedway Stout to Widmer Hefeweizen. Some locations even have a few taps to fill your growler.  169 E Tropicana Ave 4503 Paradise Rd 6030 W Windmill Ln 8544 Blue Diamond Rd 4760 W Cactus Ave 4). Liquor Lineup If you travel north, past Winterfell, past the Wall, you will end up in deep North Las Vegas. If you find yourself here, and are thirsty for some beer, stop into Liquor Lineup. They have a small selection, but I always find 1 or 2 interesting things that make the trip worth it. There is also a growler fill station if you are looking to buy in bulk, and drink quickly. 6462 Losee Rd 3). Top Shelf Wine & Spirits To

Justin Z’s Blog Take Over; We’re Back!!

We’re Back!!! It has been quite awhile since we last posted. We are very sorry to keep our beer community waiting. A lot has happened since our last post, but we are back and we will be posting more than ever: 1. I Am Now a Certified Cicerone One of the biggest reasons why we have not posted any new material, is because we buried our noses in books and studied, studied, and studied. After we thought we were prepared guess what??? We studied some more!!! It was all worth it in the end, at least for one of us. I passed, but unfortunately Veronica didn’t  (Veronica Blog Here)   It was a moment that could have torn us apart forever, but our love for beer, and each other prevailed.  2. I Finally Have 1 Job, but Veronica Has 3 I was balancing working Triple George Grill, and The Kitchen at Atomic. Balancing both, and working 7 days a week really took a toll on me, and this blog. Eventually I was forced to choose one or the other, and in the end, I was just offered more at Triple George.  Ato

Bad Beat Brewing 3rd Anniversary

Image
Anniversary Partayy!! This past weekend, Couple o' Brews hit up the third anniversary party for Bad Beat Brewing. Bad Beat is in the Henderson Booze District on Eastgate.  This brewery has been spreading their beer all over town, particularly by canning and distributing to grocery stores.  You may have seen their Bluffin' Isn't Weisse or the Gutshot Stout.  In their taproom, they carry different brews, and have been releasing limited stock of some new beers, like the Queen of Hearts or the Pillow Fight, which we have reviewed in our videos!! The Anniversary party had the classic Bad Beat beers featured, as well as some rare release deliciousness. They had two bars, so no long waits!! One of the bars was in the brewery, so you got to experience being in the brewery setting.  The other was in their regular tap room with different beers at each bar.  Due to the weather being almost 120 degrees, its hard to keep that place cool, but the beer was cold, and it was flowing

Summer Sour Series

Image
This week starts the beginning of the Summer Sour Series from Couple o' Brews! We're focusing on four different sour variants from local breweries around town! Sours, specifically Berliner Weisse styles, are perfect for the hot summer months, because they are refreshing and tart like lemonade. Perfect for kayaking, hiking, boating, or whatever your favorite summertime activity.  We'll be posting a video every two weeks, so stay tuned! Each of these breweries featured, are in Henderson, and all of the four videos are filmed out at Lake Mead! We had a blast kayaking and filming. We had issues with the wind and many times while filming it was total garbage. What was fun was filming in the kayaks and we kept floating away with the current. Too silly. There's an island we kayaked to, that's one of those pop ups after the water levels had lowered, and it was perfect for docking and relaxing. Queen of Hearts First up, we have the Queen of Hearts Berline
